Have you ever picked up some cookies or a muffin at a little bake
sale and realized, "Hey, this is fantastic!"? Your taste
buds are ecstatic and you wonder why all those things you buy from
the grocery store don’t taste quite as scrumptious. There’s
just something special about a product, whether a cookie or a tote
bag, made by someone’s careful and deliberate hands. That’s
the idea behind Bake Sale Designs.
I scour for the best ingredients, from new fabric to rescued materials, to whip up one-of-a-kind and limited edition goodies for you. I love to find vintage fabrics in the form of curtains and dresses and turn them into to something new, useful, and beautiful. No material is out of the question. I can recycle bed sheets and shower curtains into functional things. I individually design and hand-make each item. Whether you’re looking for something more personal than mass-produced fare or you just want to be the only one with a one-of-a-kind item, check out Bake Sale Designs.

I have been sewing since I was a kid. I’ve picked up some
other handicraft skills throughout my life, from photography to
ceramics. Sewing and crafting was never supposed to be a career
for me. But after a day of work behind a computer and in meetings,
I’ve found that sitting down and creating a concrete thing
can be very satisfying. And it was even better to be able to pass
what I made on to family members and friends and see that it was
meaningful to them as well. In a consumer-driven society where every
big box store has the same products in every town, I think a unique,
handmade gift can say a lot. So I started Bake Sale Designs, right now based in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ever since I started this endeavor, I have been absolutely
amazed at the supportive and enthusiastic responses from friends
and family members. I wanted to take time to thank George, who puts
up with it all and has been nothing but encouraging from the start.
Beth, without whom this web site would not exist. All my friends
who have acted as unofficial testers for my products. And of course
thanks to Chrissie and Vince and Laurie who surprise me with goodies from which
to create and sew. There's a great community of crafters and indie
designers out there and I am happy to be a part of it.
